Julia Bartimer: Top Tennis Player

Julia Bartimer, captain of Girls Varsity Tennis, has been playing the sport for as long as she can remember. 
Bartimer started playing seriously when she came to Hopkins and, by eighth grade, she was playing on the Girls Varsity Team. 

Bartimer has been described as a very strong and determined player by her coach, Spanish teacher Susan Bennitt. Bennitt  said, “Julia can play against the toughest players in the state and always finds space to step her game up and give them a run for their money. She’s fearless.”  

Bartimer said one of her favorite moments on The Hill was “definitely last year when we won New Englands.” Bartimer said, “I remember storming the court and passing around the trophy. I’ll remember that forever.”

Bennitt said that Bartimer “played a fundamental role in our beating Kingswood-Oxford to win New Englands.” Along with the major victory at New Englands, Bartimer played in the FAA finals and was a part of the New Haven Register All-Area Girls Tennis Team last year. 

 Bartimer values her teammates very much. Bennitt said, “She’s loyal to her teammates and represents the fair-play culture that we have tried to nurture in the girls over the years. She never fails to lead by example. That could be by picking up hundreds of tennis balls that have rolled into the back courts without ever being asked, or by staying as long as it takes after practice is over to work on her serve.” 
Her teammates appreciate all that she does for the team, as well. Caroline Viselli ’19 said, “Julia brings energy and excitement to every tennis match and practice. Her pep talks always inspire the team to do our best during the matches. We are really going to miss her next year on the team because she adds so much to our team dynamic.” 

Catey Lasersohn ’19 said, “She sets a good example as a strong and focused competitor on the court and an equally committed and welcoming team member off the court.”

In the fall, Bartimer will attend Brown University and,  while there,  she intends to “pick up a racket every chance I get.”
